Profiles

Acetal (also known as Delrin or POM) is a high-performance engineering plastic offering excellent dimensional stability, low friction, and superb machinability. P&M Plastics stocks and fabricates acetal in sheet and rod form for precision mechanical components including gears, bushings, bearings, rollers, and custom machined parts.

Acetal's combination of stiffness, strength, and low moisture absorption makes it the preferred material for tight-tolerance mechanical applications.

How We Fabricate Acetal

Acetal is CNC-machined to tight tolerances for precision components. Available in natural (white) and black in sheet and rod profiles. Acetal cannot be solvent-bonded, so assemblies use mechanical fastening.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between acetal and nylon? +

Acetal has better dimensional stability and much lower moisture absorption. Nylon has better impact resistance and wear properties. Acetal is preferred for precision parts; nylon for wear applications.

Can acetal be bonded or welded? +

Acetal cannot be solvent-bonded or easily adhesive-bonded. Mechanical fastening (screws, press-fits) is the standard assembly method.

Is Delrin the same as acetal? +

Yes, Delrin is DuPont's brand name for acetal homopolymer. We also supply acetal copolymer which has slightly better chemical resistance.
