Plastic Fabricators

Fabricators start with raw plastic sheet, rod, or tube and cut, shape, weld, or form it into finished parts. They work with materials like acrylic, polycarbonate, HDPE, PVC, nylon, and many others. Lead times are short — often days rather than weeks — and there's no tooling cost. This makes fabricators ideal for custom parts, prototypes, low-to-medium volumes, and jobs where dimensions change between orders.

Plastic Moulders

Moulders use processes like injection moulding, blow moulding, or rotational moulding to produce parts from molten plastic poured into a tool. The upfront tooling cost is high — often tens of thousands of dollars — but the per-unit cost drops sharply at volume. Moulders are the right choice when you need thousands of identical parts with tight tolerances and consistent finish.

CNC Routing and Laser Cutting

These are the two most common cutting methods. CNC routers are better for thick sheet, engineering plastics, and jobs that need profiling or pocketing. Plastic Welding

Welding joins thermoplastic sheets using heat — either hot gas welding or extrusion welding. It's the standard method for fabricating tanks, bunds, and structural assemblies from HDPE, polypropylene, or PVC. Welded joints in the right material can be as strong as the parent sheet. This is a specialist skill that separates proper plastic manufacturers from basic cut-and-supply operations.

Forming and Bending

Acrylic and some other thermoplastics can be heat-formed into curves, angles, and compound shapes. This is used for everything from display cases and signage to boat windscreens and protective covers. Vacuum forming takes this further — a heated sheet is drawn over a mould to produce three-dimensional shapes at relatively low tooling cost.

Engineering Plastics

They're common in industrial, marine, and mining applications.

Signage and Display Materials

Foam PVC, corflute, aluminium composite panel, and HIPS sheet are lightweight boards used in retail displays, signage, and point-of-sale applications. They're easy to cut and print on, and they don't require the structural properties of engineering plastics.

How to Choose the Right Plastic Manufacturer

Not all plastic manufacturers are equal, and the right choice depends on your job. Here are the key questions to ask.

Do they stock the material you need?

Some fabricators specialise in acrylic only. Others carry a full range of engineering plastics. If your job involves HDPE tanks, polypropylene bunds, or nylon wear parts, you need a supplier who stocks and regularly works with those materials — not one who has to order them in specially.

Can they handle the full job — or just part of it?

A fabricator who can only cut sheet is limited. If your job needs welding, forming, drilling, or assembly, you want a single supplier who can manage the whole scope. Splitting a job across multiple shops adds cost, delays, and risk of misalignment between components.

Are they local or remote?

For simple cut-to-size orders, location matters less. Material type and grade — if you're not sure, describe the application and let the fabricator advise. Dimensions — length, width, thickness, and any cutouts or profiles. Quantity — even an approximate number helps with pricing. Finish requirements — polished edges, masked surfaces, drilled holes, or specific tolerances. End use — where the part is going and what it needs to withstand (UV, chemicals, impact, load).

A DXF or PDF drawing is ideal for complex shapes. For simple rectangular cuts, dimensions in a plain email are usually enough.
