The bulk of our Gold Coast water tank work falls into three buckets: rainwater catchment for residential and commercial sites that need a non-standard footprint (under a deck, against a retaining wall, on a roof terrace), process water tanks for car wash bays and trade workshops, and potable reserve tanks for cafes, food vans and beachfront kiosks where the local supply pressure is unreliable.
HDPE is the right material for these jobs because it is food-safe in the black grade, UV-stable, will not corrode like steel, and welds back together cleanly when a fitting needs adding or relocating. Concrete tanks and rotomoulded poly tanks both work for standard footprints, but neither lets you build a slim 600mm-wide tank to slide under a Burleigh townhouse stair, or a 200L outlet-on-the-end fuel-station overflow tank for a Mermaid Beach service station.
Every tank ships with a fabrication certificate listing the sheet grade, weld procedure, hydrostatic test result and fittings schedule. If a tank ever needs modifying (extra outlet, baffle relocation, capacity extension), we can weld onto the original unit rather than replacing it. How long does a custom HDPE water tank take to build on the Gold Coast? +
Standard rectangular and round tanks under 3,000L typically ship within 5 to 10 working days of order confirmation. Larger or more complex tanks (multiple baffles, sloped bases, multiple bulkhead fittings) sit at 10 to 15 working days. We can quote on confirmed lead time once the drawing is signed off.
Can you fabricate a tank to a specific footprint to fit under a deck, boat or vehicle? +
Yes. Custom footprints are most of our tank work. Send a sketch or photo with the available envelope (length, width, height, any obstructions) and the volume you need to hit, and we will work back to a tank design that fits. We CNC-cut every panel before welding so right-angle, sloped and curved tank shapes are all feasible.
What is the difference between food-grade HDPE and standard HDPE? +
Food-grade HDPE meets AS 2070 and FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 for repeated contact with food and potable water. We stock food-grade black HDPE specifically for rainwater catchment, cafe and food-van applications. Standard PE-100 natural and black are fine for industrial process water, wash bays and chemical reserve, but should not be used for drinking water.
Do you weld in BSP outlets, bulkhead fittings, baffles and manways? +
Yes. Outlets from 1/2 inch BSP up to 4 inch can be socket-welded into the tank wall during fabrication. Bulkhead fittings, vent caps, level sensor sockets, internal baffles for fluid-slosh control, and bolt-on or weld-in manways are all standard inclusions. Specify position and size on the drawing and we will weld them in at the same time as the tank.
Will a HDPE water tank handle Gold Coast UV and salt air? +
Yes. The PE-100 black grade we use carries a 2 percent carbon black UV package and is rated for permanent outdoor exposure in Australian conditions. Salt air does not corrode HDPE the way it does galvanised steel or aluminium tanks, which is why we sell heavily into Burleigh, Currumbin and Mermaid coastal sites.
Do you deliver beyond the Gold Coast? +
Yes. We deliver standard Gold Coast city wide with no surcharge inside 60km of Burleigh Heads. Brisbane, Tweed Heads, Logan, Sunshine Coast and Northern NSW are all routine; freight is quoted on tank size. Larger tanks (5,000L+) typically ship on a flatbed direct to site.
Can a HDPE tank be repaired or modified after install? +
Yes, and this is the main long-term advantage over rotomoulded. We can come back to a tank we built, add an extra outlet, relocate a fitting, weld in a baffle or splice in a capacity extension using the same extrusion-weld process as the original build. Concrete and rotomoulded tanks cannot be modified once cured or moulded.
