Why Gold Coast businesses choose P&M for Foam PVC (Foamex) sign substrate

Foam PVC (sold under the Foamex, Komatex, Palight and Simopor names) is the standard substrate for printed signage, three-dimensional letters, exhibit graphics and architectural cladding panels because it is lightweight, weatherproof, takes vinyl and direct-print cleanly, and machines on a CNC router without chipping. P&M Plastics holds white foam PVC sheet in 3mm, 5mm, 10mm and 19mm, with colour and 13mm in stock as a fast mill-order.

  • White foam PVC in 3mm, 5mm, 10mm and 19mm stocked; 13mm and colour on short mill-order
  • CNC routed, laser-cut, drilled and counter-bored to your DXF, PDF or AI file
  • Sheet sizes 2440 x 1220mm and 3050 x 1525mm cut down to any size
  • Edge-paint, vinyl-wrap, direct UV-print or laminate finish supported
  • Same-day or next-day turnaround on most cut-to-size sign-substrate orders

Gold Coast sign-makers and fit-out work we cut foam PVC for

Foam PVC is the substrate of choice for the Gold Coast sign trade because nothing competes with its combination of light weight, weatherproof life, screw-and-glue holdability, and machinability. Our weekly substrate runs go out to printed-sign houses across Burleigh, Currumbin, Robina and Nerang, to real-estate sign installers covering Tugun through Hope Island, and to exhibit and event production crews fitting Hota, the Convention Centre and Pacific Fair activations.

Most foam PVC sign work falls into three formats. Flat printed panels: 5mm or 10mm white sheet cut to the artwork bleed, ready for vinyl print mounting or direct UV-print. Three-dimensional cut-out letters: 10mm or 19mm sheet CNC-routed to the typeface outline with a clean 45-degree or square edge, ready for paint or vinyl-wrap. Real-estate and corflute-replacement signage: 3mm or 5mm sheet at A2 or A1 format, drilled for stake fixings.

The trade-off worth knowing: foam PVC is rigid, will not flex back from a hard impact (it will dent or chip), and softens above 60 degrees Celsius. For long-life outdoor signage in full Queensland sun, 5mm or 10mm white foam PVC sealed at the edges (edge-paint or vinyl-wrap) gives 4 to 7 years of usable life. For permanent vehicle-traffic signage or sites with impact risk, ACP (aluminium composite panel) is the upgrade and we stock that too.

Frequently asked questions

What is foam PVC and how is it different from rigid PVC sheet? +

Foam PVC is a rigid closed-cell foam version of polyvinyl chloride, manufactured under the Foamex, Komatex, Palight, Simopor and Forex brand names. Compared to solid rigid PVC sheet, foam PVC is roughly half the density (0.45 to 0.55 g/cm3 vs 1.4), routs and cuts cleanly without chipping, takes a screw without splitting, and prints uniformly. Solid PVC is stronger, more chemical-resistant and rated for engineering applications; foam PVC is the substrate for signage, graphics and lightweight panel work.

What thickness foam PVC should I use for outdoor signage on the Gold Coast? +

For panel-mounted printed signage (vinyl or direct-print), 5mm white is the workhorse spec; it survives the wind load on most fence and stake installations. For free-standing real-estate signs and short-life event signage, 3mm white is the cheaper pick. For three-dimensional letters or panels that need physical depth, step up to 10mm or 19mm.

Can foam PVC be CNC-routed to a logo or three-dimensional letter shape? +

Yes. Foam PVC is the easiest plastic to CNC-rout cleanly. We routinely cut typeface outlines, brand-shape silhouettes and free-standing letters in 10mm and 19mm sheet with a square or 45-degree chamfer edge. The cut edge is paintable straight from the router without sanding.

Does foam PVC accept vinyl print and direct UV-print cleanly? +

Yes. Both vinyl print and UV direct-print mount and adhere on foam PVC without surface prep, which is the main reason it dominates the sign-substrate market. For premium presentations we recommend a fine sanding pass before direct-print to lift micro-texture; for vinyl mount no prep is needed.

How long does outdoor foam PVC signage last on the Gold Coast? +

5mm or 10mm white foam PVC with edge-sealed graphics (vinyl-wrap or edge-paint) typically gives 4 to 7 years of usable life in Queensland sun and salt air. Unsealed edges can wick moisture and discolour from year 3 on. For longer life on a permanent install, step up to ACP (aluminium composite panel) which carries a 10+ year outdoor life.

Do you cut foam PVC to size while I wait? +

Small panel cut-downs can usually be turned around on the same business day if material is in stock. Larger CNC-routed jobs (logos, letter sets, multi-piece panel runs) sit at 1 to 5 working days depending on the queue. Phone for current turnaround on urgent jobs.

Can you deliver foam PVC to my Gold Coast sign shop or print house? +

Yes. We deliver across the Gold Coast city-wide, into Brisbane Southside, Logan and Tweed Heads on standard runs. Larger panel deliveries are quoted on size; flat-pack and stacked sheet runs ship the same week most weeks.
